Meet the Community – Colleen Beres

Meet the Community – Colleen Beres

Who are you? (First and Last Name)

  • Hey – I’m Colleen Beres.

What Organization do you represent? (As it relates to why you’d be getting highlighted in an Esports Newsletter)

  • Terra Localizations

Why do you personally believe esports is important, both to our region and in general?

  • Wisconsinites are social creatures; it is woven into the fabric of our communities and our state. We can find fun, network, and make friends no matter the circumstances – even in the bitterest of winters. Esports has created a catalyst to deepen those relationships further as well as opportunities to reflect on nostalgia that can connect people immediately. Why do I personally believe so strongly in esports? It creates equity and a space for people to be whoever they want to be in that moment and completely, authentically themselves all at the same time.

What games did you grow up playing and what are you playing the most now?

  • I very distinctly remember getting an NES – core memory and totally dating myself. I grew up playing the original hits – Excitebike, Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros, Paper Boy and (my personal favorite) Adventures in the Magic Kingdom. Today, I’ve graduated to a Switch, and I love playing games that pay homage to my youth and that I can enjoy with my kids like Mario Kart and Crash Bandicoot. The competition gets fierce.

If you could only play one game for the rest of your life, what would it be?

  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
