Meet the Community – Robert Xiong

Who are you? (First and Last Name)

  • Robert Xiong

What Organization do you represent? (As it relates to why you’d be getting highlighted in an Esports Newsletter)

  • Carthage College (Director of Esports)

Why do you personally believe esports is important, both to our region and in general?

  • I personally believe that Esports is important to our region and in general because it gives gamers around Wisconsin an opportunity to participate in something they love to do. Growing up, especially in an Asian household, it was especially hard for me to convince my family that gaming/esports was going to be a vital part of my life as they always looked down on it. After going through my undergraduate years at Lakeland University and helping start the talks of the program there, I saw how valuable Esports was to growing connections, building lifelong friendships, and creating the soft skills necessary for the next chapter of not only my life but for my teammates as well! Competitions in Esports helps character development within a player and that is my goal as a Director here at Carthage, to help shape the next generation of Esports players into not only great players but great people outside of gaming!

What games did you grow up playing and what are you playing the most now?

  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and all the Call of Duty games afterwards. The campaigns, zombie mode, and multiplayers were and will always be the GOAT of the past. Currently I play a lot of League of Legends as I coach the Carthage team. League has been a big part of my life 8 years ago and it will continue to be!

If you could only play one game for the rest of your life, what would it be?

  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. The feeling of getting a nuke with the killstreaks were just pure nostalgia. That game will forever be #1 for me!

Where can people find you? (Socials/Twitch/etc)
